A nostalgic spirit on Islington Green – relaxed, romantic and quietly timeworn.
Bellanger is a neighbourhood brasserie woven into the rhythm of Islington Green. STUDIO Shayne Brady was tasked with creating the restaurant’s instinctive charm while enriching it with a deep sense of patina, character and lived-in ease.

The front salon sets the tone. Decadent wall murals wrap the room in the soft glow of a bygone era, their painterly detailing evoking afternoons of fun, frivolity and café culture. A bespoke elongated bar anchors the space – crafted in dark-stained timber with pewter edging – designed as a place to settle in with a drink and watch the day unfold.

The interior is layered with intentional imperfection: vintage-sourced lighting, curated artwork, distressed finishes and aged metalwork that speak to a narrative of careful curation. Nothing feels overly polished; everything feels collected. It’s a space designed to wear in, not wear out.
Outside, the terrace looks onto the green, where bistro chairs, striped awnings, and classic café tables offer a moment of escape reminiscent of Parisian boulevards. From breakfast through to late-night dining, Bellanger is a celebration of neighbourhood hospitality – warm, and enduring, a place that feels both loved and beautifully lived-in.
